"In the autumn of 2012, I attended the Researcher Grand Prix event at Studendersamfundet in Trondheim. This competition featured PhD students who were challenged to present their research in an engaging and understandable way for the general public. I’ve always had a deep passion for research, education, and communicating complex ideas in simple terms, which is why I regularly attend such events. One of the many presentations that evening stood out to me in particular—Mozhgan Tavakolifard’s.
While most other students relied on props or costumes to symbolize their fields of study, Mozhgan’s approach was refreshingly different. She used only her voice, body language, and intellect to convey her research on trust in a digital world—a deeply human concept. Her work explored how trust plays a crucial role in making intuitive decisions in unfamiliar situations, something Artificial Intelligence and technology have yet to replicate. This idea resonated profoundly, as I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of human elements and technology.
Our professional relationship grew stronger when Mozhgan became a postdoctoral researcher in our department. As one of the few female professors, I’ve always valued opportunities to mentor and collaborate with young female researchers, and working with Mozhgan was particularly rewarding. We shared a passion for fostering inclusion in our field, organizing seminars and conferences to encourage more women to pursue careers in technology and research. Beyond work, we also formed a close personal bond, often going for runs through the scenic landscapes of Trondheim, where we would discuss everything from our professional lives to personal philosophies.
Mozhgan has worked with various organizations throughout her career, from medium-sized businesses to major Fortune 500 companies. After founding two startups in 5 years, she transitioned into executive roles, serving as Chief Data Officer (CDO) and Chief Analytics Officer (CAO) in the utility, green energy, and retail sectors. Her primary focus has always been leading digital transformations, leveraging data and AI to drive organizational change. However, her approach goes beyond just the technical—Mozhgan excels at creating governance frameworks and building architectures that allow businesses to scale sustainably. She understands that true digital transformation is as much about people as technology.
What sets Mozhgan apart is her human-centered approach. She consistently emphasizes the importance of involving people in every step of the digital transformation process, from strategy development to adopting new technologies. This unique perspective has resonated with businesses of all sizes, reminding them that while technology can enhance operations, the human element ensures lasting success.
More recently, Mozhgan has shifted her focus to helping startups and scale-ups through her company, AI Alchemy Hub, a community designed to nurture a new generation of leaders who aim to create a positive impact. By fostering a space where businesses can grow while contributing meaningfully to society, she is helping shape a future where technology and humanity thrive together.
Her journey from a PhD student exploring trust in a digital world to a leader in data and AI-driven transformation is inspiring. I enjoyed reading Mozhgan’s book in September 2024, during a busy time with conferences and research travel. The book is divided into two parts: the first explains the importance of digital transformation, and the second details the steps required to achieve it. What struck me most about her work is how she seamlessly weaves together insights from personal and business transformation, showing how principles of human growth apply to organizational change.
Mozhgan’s human-centered philosophy extends beyond her book. Through keynote speeches, podcasts, and AIzen, her latest venture, she has shared her vision of businesses as living ecosystems. This view reflects her belief that personal growth and business evolution are deeply interconnected. Her TEDx talk, "Your Data is Your Currency," further underscores the critical role that personal data plays in the digital economy. Mozhgan’s ability to integrate technology with conscious awareness exemplifies her entrepreneurial ventures, such as IPower.me and DharmicData, which focus on sustainable, data-driven growth.
Mozhgan has been recognized as one of Norway's 50 Leading Women in Tech. Her expertise spans industries and regions, from U.S. tech giants to emerging companies. In her book, she provides concrete examples of digital transformation in various sectors, drawing connections between established companies like Google and Uber and newer players such as Jumia in Kenya and Nigeria.
Reading Mozhgan’s book has left a lasting impact on me. I feel inspired to share her insights with my students, colleagues, and the companies I work with. It’s one of those rare books I wish I had written myself—deeply reflective of the balance between technology, humanity, and growth. The book reinforces my belief in the importance of blending the human and technical aspects of our work and offers practical guidance for anyone involved in digital transformation. I’m excited to pass on her wisdom and continue exploring the interplay between personal development, organizational growth, and technology."

"The AI Awakening by Dr. Mozhgan Tavakolifard is a thought-provoking exploration of the transformative power of AI and data. As a researcher deeply engaged with the intersection of AI, society, and economics, I found this book not only beautifully written but also profoundly aligned with many of my own areas of inquiry and research. It seamlessly connects technology with broader societal impacts, organizational transformation, and cultural shifts.
What sets this book apart is its holistic, philosophical approach. Instead of focusing on AI as a purely technological advancement, Dr. Tavakolifard delves into the cultural, ethical, and societal dimensions of AI, exploring the necessary changes in management and mindset that organizations need to adopt. This broader exploration resonates with many of the conversations we are currently having at the Global AI Ethics Institute. The author moves beyond the usual discussions of AI's technicality, inviting readers to consider how AI can catalyze a deeper transformation that integrates human values and organizational growth.
Throughout the book, there are numerous methodologies and frameworks introduced, many of which I plan to further explore in my own research. The Wisdom Spire Framework, for instance, offers a fresh approach to understanding transformation in both business and personal realms. The mixture of practical case studies and theoretical insights is highly useful, especially for leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs looking to implement AI in a meaningful and sustainable way. I see additional value in this book for the members of IPMA’s AI Special Interest Group, as it offers important information and strategies directly applicable to project management.
One of the standout aspects of this work is its clear alignment with the global ethical concerns we share at the Global AI Ethics Institute. Dr. Tavakolifard does not shy away from addressing AI's impact on society and economics, which is an area of great interest to me. Her philosophical exploration of AI’s role in shaping culture and society echoes many of the ideas we discuss and develop in the field of AI ethics.
As someone who engages with business leaders and entrepreneurs, I see immense value in incorporating this book into my own educational programs. It serves as an excellent resource for discussions around AI’s broader impact on organizational culture and society. The blend of philosophical depth, practical insights, and real-world examples makes it an essential read for anyone serious about AI's future role in transforming both businesses and societies.
Ultimately, The AI Awakening invites readers to embark on their own journey of exploration. While I could offer many more insights, I believe the best way to appreciate the richness of this book is to dive in and discover the ideas and strategies that resonate most with your personal and professional journey."

"Dr. Tavakolifard's "The AI Awakening" is an insightful and thought-provoking exploration of the transformative potential of AI, seamlessly blending technical expertise with a holistic, human-centric approach. It challenges readers to rethink their understanding of AI, advocating for its conscious and ethical integration into business and personal growth.

The book is packed with insightful ideas, particularly when it comes to integrating AI into organizational transformation. Chapters like "Cultivating a Growth Mindset for Data-Led Transformation" and "Transformation Engineering" provide a practical framework for businesses looking to leverage AI for innovation. But this isn't just for business leaders. Anyone curious about the future, especially in this age of rapid technological advancement, will find something valuable in these pages.

The book effectively challenges the misconception that AI is solely about replacing human capabilities. Instead, it presents AI as a partner in the journey of transformation, augmenting human potential and enabling us to achieve more than ever before.

The real-world case studies, such as those on Netflix, Amazon, and Spotify, are particularly compelling, demonstrating the practical applications of AI in various industries. The exercises at the end of each chapter encourage self-reflection and provide a roadmap for implementing the book's insights.

Dr. Tavakolifard's approach is characterized by a deep understanding of both the capabilities and limitations of AI. She emphasizes the importance of human intuition, ethical considerations, and continuous learning, ensuring that AI is used to enhance rather than replace human potential.

This book is for anyone interested in the future of AI, from business leaders and AI enthusiasts to those seeking personal growth in the digital age. It is a valuable resource for those looking to understand how AI can be integrated into their lives and organizations responsibly and ethically.

I highly recommend "The AI Awakening" to anyone interested in the transformative potential of AI. It is a must-read for those looking to navigate the complexities of the digital age with wisdom, purpose, and a deep commitment to ethical and human-centric innovation."

"When individuals and organizations are looking to advance and be a part of the AI evolution, the human should be included in the equation. I love books and one that hits the mark on the human element of AI is Dr. Mozhgan Tavakolifard's new book 'The AI Awakening: A New Era of Data, Discovery, and Growth'. On the cover, it says: ' Exploring the Synbergy Between Technological Innovation and Human'. In Dr. Tavakolifard's book she starts off with something that I hope becomes an element individuals and organizations who want to be a part of the AI era, if it isn't there already: awakening to transformation and cultivating a growth mindset for data-led transformation. Both of these are needed. It isn't just knowing something is there but awakening to it; what a good word, awakening. Then, having a growth mindset to move forward and be awake to AI and the future. As you progress through her book, you get to a chapter on 'Building a Climbing Team'. What a wonderful analogy for this fan of mountains. AI is a climb with hurdles, rocks, and possibly even stumbles along the way. Don't go this journey alone. Utilize Dr. Tavakolifard's book to help you in your journey. Find the key insights and pieces that help you climb the mountain of AI, but don't just climb, let the insights and pieces become a part of your organization's culture, who you are. But here is the catch: once you reach the summit, know your journey is not done. From a mountain peak you may see miles away, you may see other mountains to climb. Stay awake in this age of AI. Join the journey."

"Da har jeg akkurat lest ferdig «The AI awakening» av Mozhgan Tavakolifard. Den er akkurat så bra som jeg forventet – og enda en god del bedre. Det er fin-fine beskrivelser av hvordan man håndterer og samler inn data, men best av alt er det filosofiske perspektivet på temaet. Hva betyr all denne datamengden for oss mennesker og hvordan kan vi bruke det til det beste? Nydelige illustrasjoner også!"
